‘Roll Miss Beauregarde into the boat,’ he said to them, ‘and take her along to the Juicing Room at once.’
‘The Juicing Room?’ cried Mrs Beauregarde. ‘What are they going to do to her there?’
‘Squeeze her,’ said Mr Wonka.
Meet James
James Voce [that's me] is a paper cutting artist most recognised for his hand cut literature-inspired 'papercuts'.
My work focusses on fictional literature. Hand cutting themes and images from the pages of fictional novels. I have a fascination with opening lines and will often cut letters from the page and add them to the artwork.
Many of my works are inspired by original photos taken by myself or my dad. I have a passion for trees and many of my works are intricately hand cut forests (taken from my own photos). These tend to be the papercuts I most enjoy creating. It's the poetic appeal of books, made from trees, returning to trees. All of the books I use in my works are second hand and destined for the bin/landfill. I re-imagine them, give them new life, and plant new trees along the way.
My passion for analogue processes stems from early childhood and is captured on dozens of Super 8 films - made by his father.
I live in the Derbyshire Peak District village of Wensley. I have been creating original art since 2010.
